Admirals Harvest

August 27th, 2013

Admirals Harvest

Labor Day approaches! It's back to school time! It's time for nature to shed her greens of summer, and take on the firey colors of autumn. This poem/ painting celebrates the harvest and the 'autumn' of our years.

The harvest is in on the old man's farm,
The sun is setting,
The air is warm.
An Admiral by trade,
With a farmer's heart,
He spent many weekends,
Pulling a cart.
Jacket on the chair,
Hat on the table,
He sips his wine,
Glad he was able,
To provide such a bounty,
For those in his care,
With the butterflies,
He is happy to share.
Admirals as well,
They feel right at home,
Tasting the fruits,
The Admiral has grown.
The butterflies dance and float,
In the cool mountain breeze,
Persued by his grandkids,
Who chase them with ease.
They giggle with glee,
As they chase them around,
And our Admiral thanks the Lord,
For the joy he has found

Simply Elemental

Greetings! I hope each of you are having a marvelous summer! Today's post is a painting which is part of my 'Casting Call' series. This piece will be used for the cover of a book being written by a very gifted holistic practitioner. I have found great 'inner' peace by connecting to our natural world, and I believe our answers come when we still our minds and listen.

It's simply elemental,
The key to eternal bliss,
Connect yourself to all that is,
You'll find your happiness.
Greet the warmth of the new day sun,
With a mighty lion's roar,
Feel the energy flow,
From Mother Earth's inner core.
Listen to the wind,
When it gently blows your hair,
It has traveled far my friend,
And has so much to share.
When fire consumes all that was,
And only ashes remain,
Like the mighty phoenix,
You will rise again.
Trust the moon, with it's glowing light,
When it asks you to wish on a star,
Remember the elements,
Are part of who you are.

Catatonic

Catatonic

Good morning! I hope everyone out there is having a wonderful summer! Mine has definately been busy! My poem for today is a story about a wise little mouse and a feline with a weakness.

We all have our weak spot,
Something we can't resist.
This little mouse has discovered,
What tops his kitty's list.
He knocked the bottle over,
Then quickly removed the pin,
Our feline didn't know,
What trouble she was in.
She collapsed on the floor,
In a catatonic state,
Surrounded by the puddle,
Which determined kitty's fate.
Bested by a mouse,
With a clever brain,
Who realized the key to his success,
Could be poured down the drain!

The Artistic Spirit

The Artistic Spirit

Good morning! This post is for ALL of the creative people in the world. Whether you are a painter, a sculpter, a photographer or musician, the artistic spirit resides within you.

The artistic spirit is often a lonely soul,
Adrift in a sea of possibility,
When consummed by inspiration,
It's thoughts become reality.
It seeks your acceptance,
With each new endeavor,
And longs to feel your embrace,
In it's moment of surrender.
Like a child who pulls on Mamma's dress,
Asking for a glance,
It begs you to stop and admire,
Give it just a chance.
For when an artist creates,
Or a photographer captures the perfect shot,
Rest assured the spirit there,
Is giving all it's got.

Dog....Gone Happy

Dog....Gone Happy

Happy Memorial Day to ALL! I hope each of you has a wonderful holiday!
My poem today is for 'Dog...Gone Happy'. This piece won second place in one of our local art shows, and is one of my personal favorites!

It's a glorious afternoon,
The red car is in motion,
Our passenger consumed,
With joyous new emotion.
A road trip with his best friend,
And a beautiful sunny day,
There's a ball on the seat,
What game will we play?
The trees become a blur,
As they travel down the road,
The sights and smells delight him,
He's in happy mode!

Good Conversations

Good Conversations

Good morning to all! Today's weather is supposed to be HOT here in Chesterfield, so I am sharing one of my 'beachy' renditions.

Let's all go to the seashore,
Where the conversations flow,
We'll kick off our shoes, and stay awhile,
A fishing we will go!
We can claim our spot,
Set up a chair,
Watch young girls giggle,
With every stare.
We'll have a nice lunch,
Sip a cold drink,
Feel the wind in our hair,
Take time to think.
We might find a hermit crab,
Or a starfish in the sand,
We'll soak up the sun,
What a good time I have planned!

Thunder Is Heard

Thunder Is Heard

This piece is my rendition of 'Thunderous Herd', a play on words to be sure...but I can't help it!

The sunset fills the sky,
As the thunderstorm approaches,
It's brilliant hues reflected,
On everything it touches.
Lightning flashes and thunder roars,
The wind a mighty force,
Sound assaults the rabbit's ears,
Soon he sees it's source.
Dashing for cover,
The herd is in sight,
Their bodies aglow,
With the afternoon light.
Beautiful they are,
So wild and free,
A thunderous herd,
In our storm by the sea.

Painted Ladies

Painted Ladies

Good morning! I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend planned! I am giving you a couple of shorter poems today!! My first is for "Painted Ladies", a piece I created after visiting our local botanical gardens. There were two little girls recieving SUCH joy from all of the dancing butterflies, I wanted to capture their moment!

The ladies dance in a field of flowers,
Giggling with glee,
Surrounded by the butterflies,
A delightful sight to see.
With painted faces and ruffled dresses,
The butterflies might compare,
The adornment worn by little girls,
To the beauty of the flowers there.
Painted by the Lord above,
Their wings a work of art,
I hope the floating ladies know,
The joy they bring to a little girl's heart.

Fishy Business

Fishy Business

This one is for all of the mermaid fans out there!

The mermaid anxiously waits,
Bathed in aqua light,
When suddenly she sees,
The loan shark now in sight,
The sunlight lingers,
Upon his dark blue skin,
And evil thoughts reside,
Behind his toothy grin.
He said he would help her out,
But borrower beware,
For every clam you borrow,
Double will be your share.
So be careful little mermaid,
Before you sign in green,
Know the fella you're dealing with,
Things aren't always as they seem.

Crab Pickin

Crab Pickin

Good morning! My next poem/art post is for my 'Crab Pickin' piece. My previous posts (April 4th) have received a lot of veiws, I hope you are enjoying my renditions!

The family gathers by the shore,
Beneath their bright umbrellas,
To reunite and reaquaint,
To discuss the other fellas,
They've brought their coolers and their floats,
Their fishing poles and kites,
They've settled in for some fun,
To last into the night.
The crabs are cleaned and ready,
For a hoedown to commence,
They take their places, one by one,
On their instruments.
Do you think they'll really play?,
Or is it all a joke,
I know,delicious they would be,
After a butter soak!

Hung Out To Dry

Hung Out To Dry

My third post for today is for my 'Hung Out To Dry' piece. This is an allegorical work, with a political spin. I created this in 2011, a difficult year for many in this country.

The big white house sits on the hill,
It's occupants discussing each proposed bill.,
It's washday, clothes hung on the line,
Let's see whose 'hung out' this time.
There's a maid's dress and a blue collar shirt,
Overalls, an apron, "Keep that flag off the dirt!",
The basket is full of those who've cried foul,
And some who threw in the towel,
Her pockets are stuffed with special interest groups,
And lobbyists seeking personal loops.,
The rat at her feet has a loan to sell,
He knows it's no good...but what the hell.,
Pink slip in hand, hope in his heart,
That young man needs a new start,
But the well has run dry, they took it all,
Big men, who 'just couldn't fall'.,
The farmer tries to repair his soul,
As slowly he digs his way out of a hole.
There goes the eagle, mighty and strong,
Taking our jobs to India and Hong Kong.
A storm is brewing, the clouds are black,
Who is gonna 'Have our back?'

Alley Catz

April 4th, 2013

Alley Catz

My second post is for one of my favorite pieces, 'Alley Catz'.

The shadows lengthen in the alley,
Where the resturant resides,
Whose waitress, dear young Sally,
Greets the box with open eyes.
"You can have your pick.",he grins,
"They're nearly eight weeks old",
"How about the one who's climbing out",
"He's lively and he's bold!"
While Sally ponders which to take,
The alley comes alive,
With cats of every model and make,
Like bees from a hive.
They appear at dusk on velvet paws,
When Joe delivers his fish,
And prowl the cobbled street,
Seeking the delectable dish.
The Tigers throw their ball with glee,
As the little girl flirts with danger,
The 'wildcat' from apartment 223,
Has met a 'koolcat' stranger.,
Late afternoon on the city streets,
While the cobblestone is warm,
Offers us such visual treats,
As the cats begin to swarm.

The Call Of The Wild

The Call Of The Wild

Greetings! I hope this day finds you doing well! I would like to share with you some of the poetry I have written to go with my 'Wordplay' series. I hope you enjoy reading my posts, please comment! My first post is for 'The Call Of The Wild'.

The water splashes opon the rocks,
With a gentle soothing beat,
It gurgles and it sparkles,
A cool relief from all the heat.
The wind sings a joyous song,
Through the leaves of the trees,
It's whisper joins the gentle hum,
Of the bugs and buzzing bees,
Butterflies dance and float,
As does the hummingbird,
When trumpet flowers beckon,
With honey coated words.
The bobcat surveys her woodland home,
With a careful eye,
And spies a wiley raccoon,
Who holds his cellphone high.
With a grumble of dismay,
The raccoon breathes a sigh,
"I can't make a call right now,
I'm barely one bar high!"
Do you think he's calling 911,
Or ordering pizza in?
The beeping of his cellphone,
Joins the forest din.
